The Ninth Circuit Court ruled today that the Trump Administration’s domestic gag rule can take effect. The decision allows the Administration to bar Title X funding from providers that give women safe abortion care or refer them to other abortion providers. As a result, millions of women will lose access to critical healthcare and control over their bodies.

Marjorie Newman-Williams, President of MSI United States, said in February when the domestic gag rule was announced:

"MSI stands with women in the United States in the wake of this new policy, which amounts to the domestic version of the Global Gag Rule. By prohibiting Title X funding to providers that offer safe abortion referrals, millions of US women now face many of the same life-threatening risks as vulnerable women in countries where MSI works.
We condemn in the strongest possible terms the Trump Administration’s domestic Gag Rule. MSI stands in solidarity with women, girls and family planning providers everywhere. We indisputably and proudly support women’s access to safe abortion and contraception, no matter where in the world they live.
Over the past two years, MSI has seen how Trump’s Global Gag Rule directly harms vulnerable women and girls around the world by threatening their access to contraception and other vital healthcare. It is shameful and dangerous that low-income and vulnerable women in need of essential family planning services in the United States may now be at risk, due to this misguided policy.”
