The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation today announced that MSI is one of the highest-scoring proposals, designated as the Top 100, in its 100&Change competition for a $100 million grant to help solve one of the world's most critical social challenges.
MSI's bold solution
The climate crisis is disproportionately impacting women and girls. In rural Kenya, Malawi and Nigeria, where women are the primary food producers, the impact of the climate crisis is acute. That's why MSI plans to partner with One Acre Fund, Global Fund for Women and Population Media Center to amplify the power, strength and skills of rural women so they can build more food-secure, climate-resilient communities. Our team will collaborate across sectors to:
- Expand access to contraception and reproductive health services for 1.3 million people.
- Improve the lives of 2.1 million smallholder farmers through access to credit, farm inputs and training on climate-smart farming techniques.
- Elevate self-led women's groups to secure rights related to reproductive, economic and climate justice.
- Harness the power of storytelling, reaching millions of people, to normalize knowledge, behavior and practices that advance community resilience.
Globally, only 0.01% of grant dollars supports projects addressing both climate change and women's rights despite the fact that Project Drawdown, the world's leading source of climate solutions, shows that women- and girl-centered approaches are among the 100 best solutions to reverse global warming. Our team brings together best in class organizations in a holistic, rights-based, integrated solution to support female smallholder farmers to build resilient families, farms and communities.
Choosing the Top 100
MSI and the other Top 100 represent the top 21% of submissions to the 100&Change competition. Our proposal was rigorously vetted, undergoing MacArthur’s initial administrative review, a Peer-to-Peer review, an evaluation by an external panel of judges, and a technical review by specialists whose expertise was matched to our project.
MacArthur’s Board of Directors will select up to 10 finalists from these high-scoring proposals this spring.
Bold Solutions Network Launches
The Bold Solutions Network launched also today, featuring MSI as one of the Top 100 from 100&Change. The searchable online collection contains a project overview, 90-second video, and two-page factsheet for each proposal. Visitors can sort by subject, location, Sustainable Development Goal, or beneficiary population to view proposals based on area of interest.
MSI is proud to be one of the Top 100 proposals for the 100&Change competition, and to be part of the Bold Solutions Network. We're committed to giving women control of their own lives, so that they can change the world for the better.
